Independent study reveals Software AG's Digital Business Platform delivers 324% ROI and a six-month payback period

Darmstadt, Germany, 23 May 2018

Software AG (Frankfurt TecDAX: SOW) today announced the significant return on investment businesses could realise by implementing the Software AG Digital Business Platform. According to The Total Economic Impact Of The Software AG Digital Business Platform, an April 2018 commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of Software AG, a composite organisation realised incremental revenue gains, productivity improvements, IOT (Internet of things) connectivity benefits, better business insights and a positive return on investment (ROI) all within a six-month payback period.

The results arise from a Total Economic Impact (TEI) study and examination into the potential ROI enterprises could realise from its Digital Business Platform.

Dr Wolfram Jost, Chief Technology Officer, Software AG, commented: "As fast as markets change, businesses must adapt even faster to stay ahead of their customer demands.

"Software AG's Digital Business Platform provides the foundation for significant digital transformation with the necessary flexibility and scalability required to support our customer's every move.

"In my view, this Forrester study demonstrates that our Digital Business Platform not only delivers enhanced intelligence, agility, and control to keep enterprises at the forefront of innovation, but also pays for itself within six months."

Forrester TEI key findings of Software AG Digital Business Platform

To better understand the benefits, costs, flexibility and risks associated with this investment, Forrester interviewed eight Software AG Digital Business Platform customers across six industries with an aggregate 32 years' experience with Software AG's products.

For this study Forrester created a composite Organisation to describe the Total Economic Impact of the Digital Business Platform. The composite Organisation is based on the interviewed customers and is assumed to be a large global enterprise that several years ago identified the need to be ready for the rapid adoption of future technologies and market disruptions in a dynamic digital world.

According to the Forrester study, enterprises experienced a little over EUR5.9 million ($7.3 million) in present-value (PV) and risk adjusted benefits over three years, all attributed to its investment in the Software AG Digital Business Platform. Additional gains include:

* Incremental revenue contribution (gross profit) of EUR1 134 041 ($1 403 070).
* Productivity improvement for developers of EUR1 418 102 ($1 754 520)
* IOT (Internet of things) connectivity solution benefits of EUR1 841 265 ($2 278 070).
* Better decision and business insights with streaming and predictive analytics amounting to EUR1 547 021 ($1 914 020).

Customers increasingly embrace digital experiences and technologies, and organisations must compete for their attention and loyalty. Every business today must learn to continuously create and exploit new digital assets to simultaneously deliver new sources of customer value and increase their operational agility.

According to one interviewee, an IT manager in the retail industry, "the Digital Business Platform gave us the power to drive the changes we needed in our eCommerce business, to deliver greater value to customers, and respond to the future demands of our customers as they arise. The project was up and running in just a few days."

Key to the productivity gains from the Digital Business Platform is the ability to re-use services. A director in the utility industry noted that it "allowed us to be more agile by re-using the automation of services that were previously developed. We don't have to develop the same code or processes over and over again; resulting in the ability to deliver value faster to our customers."

The Software AG Digital Business Platform, which has gained substantial customer adoption, is an adaptable technology layer that fits into but does not replace an organisation's existing IT landscape. It enables a readiness that allows for the rapid adoption of current and future technologies and market disruptions with a platform for the ever-evolving digital world. Based on a single architecture and release cycle, the Software AG solution is an integrated platform enabling multiple digital use cases.

The Total Economic Impact is a methodology developed by Forrester. It helps companies demonstrate and realise the tangible value of IT initiatives to both senior management and other key business stakeholders.
