Record number sign up for FTI's Business Analysis Course in KZN

A record number of business analysts have enrolled on Faculty Training Institute's (FTI) flagship Certificate Programme in Business Analysis (CPBA) in KwaZulu-Natal. Two classes are currently running back-to-back, one commissioned in-house by a South African parastatal, and the second course comprising Massmart Holdings participants and public delegates.

According to Massmart Holdings, there is a growing demand for business analysis skills across various industries. "Business analysis is becoming a fundamental skill that is no longer solely restricted to a purely business analyst role," said Massmart's spokesperson.

In today's knowledge age and with the rapid growth of technology, there is greater emphasis placed on people being able to gather, create, produce, evaluate, capture and analyse information. "These skills are fundamental for all activities in a business analysis context," says Simon Hill, FTI's Business Analysis Programme Manager. "The four-month CPBA programme is carefully designed to develop complex skills and in-depth knowledge of the main business analysis tools and techniques. These include facilitation and information-gathering skills that form the basis of requirements elicitation and many analytical thinking tools and techniques that are prerequisites for effective problem-solving."

Business analysts are primarily responsible for identifying the requirements of business stakeholders and converting these requirements into specifications that will define the nature of a new business solution to support business change.

The Massdiscounters team is currently working on an IT system landscape transformation project spanning the entire organisation, and having the required business analysis skills is key to enable this initiative. The key skills of analysis, decision-making, interpretation and problem-solving are imperative to successful project implementation and staying ahead of the market.

The CPBA draws delegates from diverse fields and industries. A delegate from another company - a key account manager - primarily a sales and marketing role, is enrolled on FTI's Certificate Programme in Business Analysis. The course is assisting the delegate to better understand the role played in new product design, which will enable his sales and marketing role to thrive.

What will delegates enrolled on FTI's Certificate Programme in Business Analysis take away from the course? They will have a good understanding of the role of the modern business analyst, be able to elicit and document functional, informational and non-functional requirements, understand and be able to produce common BA artefacts, including business cases, user requirements documents and functional specifications. Successful delegates will also have good requirements modelling skills, including being able to model processes, data, reports and interfaces.

FTI first launched its Certificate Programme in Business Analysis in Durban in 2010 and it has steadily been gaining in popularity in the KZN market ever since. FTI has been operating in Gauteng and the Western Cape for 25 years and is the leading business analysis training provider in the country.
