IT magicians help to grow the business top line and reduce the bottom line, says IITPSA president, Ulandi Exner.

Are IT professionals recognised for doing a sterling job? Do they receive appreciation for the exceptional work they do?

Ulandi Exner, president of the Institute of IT Professionals SA (IITPSA) likens an IT professional to a magician.

"We are required to predict problems before they happen and make them disappear if they do. We are mentalists because we possess special powers to read thoughts and control other minds - especially when we need our budgets approved," says Exner.

"As IT magicians, we are required to restore an object to its original state. We practise the art of transformation by transforming something from one state to another, and we need to be everywhere at once. Lastly, we are able to pull a rabbit out of a hat. I am tempted to throw escapisminto this mix, but only because of the straitjacket, I leave this interpretation entirely up to you."

According to Exner, IT magicians help to grow the business top line and reduce the bottom line through automation using countless technologies, while ensuring governance and standards are maintained.

"To all my fellow IT magicians, let's admire and celebrate the impeccable talent that is demonstrated by our peers. It is time to acknowledge the amazing work being done and let's revel in these successes."
