The ISACA South Africa Chapter held its very first virtual AGM on 22 May 2020.

Johannesburg, 22 May 2020

The ISACA South Africa Chapter held its first virtual AGM on 22 May 2020. The event was chaired by ISACA South Africa Chapter Vice-President, Kenneth Palliam. He opened proceedings and welcomed all members present.

He introduced ISACA SA Chapter President, Arlene-Lynn Volmink, who started by thanking members for their understanding and support during these trying times amid the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Volmink presented the 2019 Annual Report and included an overview of the Chapter's highlights and achievements over the past year. She highlighted this year’s theme for the Annual Report and AGM, being: “Unity is Strength”, stating that the theme spoke to the notion of the ISACA South Africa Chapter pulling together as team and turning a challenge into an opportunity, to think innovatively, deliver differently and display the best virtues of our humanity.

Volmink reflected on the purpose and promise of ISACA, as well as the ISACA South Africa Chapter vision to be the leading professional organisation in South Africa for business leaders in technology, information and cyber security, governance, risk and innovation. She covered the strategic pillars, focus areas and key metrics and some initiatives explored over the past year to bring the Chapter’s vision to realisation.

She also touched on the important initiative of the ISACA South Africa Chapter’s application to become recognised by SAQA as a Professional Body in South Africa; the primary objective of which is to increase the relevance and credibility of the Chapter in South Africa as well as enhance the recognition of certifications by South Africa Chapter members resulting in a well-established and respected community of professionals.

Volmink concluded her presentation with a short video, reflecting on memories of the 2019 year by the members and the Board of Directors at various Chapter events.

Francois Le Roux (ISACA South Africa Chapter Treasurer) provided a brief summary of the financial controls at the Chapter, as well as the external audit process. He presented the audited financial results as well as the budget as adjusted and approved by the Board of Directors for COVID-19. Le Roux was pleased to report a profit for the second consecutive year.
