Tarsus announces local availability of Acer Core 2 Duo notebooks

Johannesburg, 23 Nov 2006

Tarsus Technologies has announced the local availability of Acer's range of Core 2 Duo notebooks, a portfolio of notebooks based on the latest processor and chipset pair from Intel.

Traci Maynard, Acer Business Unit Manager at Tarsus, says the Core 2 Duo architecture is a significant step up in performance over the Core Duo architecture, which re-ignited the notebook sector not so long ago.

"Core 2 Duo technology differs from Core Duo technology in that it gains a higher clock speed, additional cache memory and EM64T technology, enabling it to run 64-bit instructions and address larger memory volumes," she explains.

"Where the Core Duo processors have a maximum clock speed of 2.33GHz, 2MB of shared L2 cache and 667MHz front side bus, the Core 2 Duo processors have a maximum clock speed of 2.67GHz, 4MB of L2 cache and 667MHz front side bus," she adds.

"The sum total of these changes is a dramatic increase in performance," Maynard says, "which delivers even more capability across the Acer Travelmate range."

Maynard says the new Core 2 Duo equipped TravelMates are available in numerous form factors, with different screen sizes, optical drive and networking options as well as hard disk/memory capacities.

"There truly is a massive array of choice," she adds.

"Besides being one of the first to launch Core 2 Duo notebooks in the local market, features that fall under Acer's 'empowering technology' banner are building a loyal following in the business space," she continues.

"With innovative features that allow for fast reconfiguration of screen resolutions, power management options, backup, recovery and security functionality, empowering technology has successfully ensured that there really is no better value for money brand of notebook available today.

"This sentiment is borne out by the fact that Acer is currently South Africa's number one notebook brand in terms of market share," she concludes.

Acer's new range of Core 2 Duo TravelMates are available immediately from Tarsus Technologies. Interested value-added resellers should contact the Tarsus Acer Business Unit on (011) 531 1000 for further information.
