Integrated IT service management consultancy Marval Africa has appointed former Absa chief information security officer Richard Peasey as managing executive.

Peasey will drive new strategic goals and objectives in transitioning the local office into an organisation with a stronger focus on sales and the customer, says Marval Africa.

Headquartered in the UK, Marval Africa designs and implements integrated ICT service management solutions, supporting its clients' IT governance initiatives. Its territory spans the Middle East, South East Asia and Africa, with offices in Johannesburg.

Peasey's appointment, according to the company, will bolster Marval Africa's renewed focus on Africa.

Edward Carbutt, executive director at Marval Africa, says: "We have an established presence in SA and built solutions for many large brands in the market; however, we aim to be the name synonymous with service management solutions in SA and throughout the rest of Africa."

Peasey comes from a fintech background, having spent over 30 years at the Absa Group in various roles within the IT department. His responsibilities spanned those of business information officer to chief information security officer, an office which Peasey held in conjunction with being head of IT solution delivery until mid-2007.

After leaving the financial industry, Peasey focused on consulting services, project and transformation management, IT process and governance delivery and various business-critical functions, before joining the Marval team.

With his experience in information services and project delivery in the financial sector, Peasey's track record in governance, transformation, management and solution delivery ensures he is well suited to his new role, according to Marval Africa.

"One of my objectives is to structure Marval Africa into a stronger solutions-based organisation that combines people, processes and technology rather than having a purely technical and software-oriented approach," says Peasey.

While the adoption and transformation of a business to a more digitally focused organisation is key to the overall survival and positioning of the company, Peasey believes it is equally important to ensure a balanced approach to the adoption of new technology and the inclusion of IT.

"Today, many organisations do not effectively drive a holistic strategy to position their products and services. IT plays a strategic role in digital transformation as it is the core of the business. As such, IT should be seen as an equal partner; however, it is often seen solely as a supplier of service, creating challenges when implementing a digital strategy."
