The South African Women in ICT Forum has appointed new board members following the end of the tenure of the organisation’s current members.

An initiative of the communications and digital technologies ministry, the Women in ICT Forum was established in 2012, while Dina Pule was minister. It is an industry forum that brings together women working in ICT as well as non-ICT-related fields.

Working with private and public sector and civil society, the forum’s interests lie in furthering the advancement of women participation in the ICT sector.

According to a statement, the new board will be chaired by Mameetse Masemola, supported by her deputy chair, Sonwabise Sebata.

Zine Nkukwana has been appointed as CEO, with Andréa Campbell and Theresa Stewart taking up the roles of treasurer and board secretariat, respectively.

Incoming non-executive directors include Jenine Zacher, Corien Vermaak, Marilyn Radebe, Nthabeleng Mokitimi-Dlamini and Irisha Luhanga, reads the statement.

“We are confident the new board members will bring a wealth of diverse experience and industry knowledge that will pivot the advancement of women in ICT to the next level,” says Charmaine Houvet, outgoing chairperson of the South African Women in ICT board.

“We wish the incoming board members all the best and assure them of our continued support during their tenure,” she adds.

Communications deputy minister Pinky Kekana reiterated government is committed to continue to work with non-profit organisations such as the Women in ICT Forum, as well as the private sector to ensure women receive equal opportunities in the ICT sector as well as ICT-enabled sectors.

“I wish the new board members of the South African Women in ICT Forum all the best in their new roles and I’m looking forward to working with them to bridge the gender gap in the ICT and ICT-enabled sectors,” notes Kekana.
