Distributor of ICT solutions Mustek has added Acronis backup software solutions to its wide range of offerings targeted at the local SME sector.

Founded in 2003, Acronis develops hybrid cloud IT data protection through its backup, disaster recovery, and secure file sync and share solutions. The company has over 18 offices worldwide and has strong presence in 150 countries, including SA.

As part of the agreement, Mustek says it will distribute all Acronis backup and recovery solutions with emphasis on the Acronis True Image, Acronis Backup and Acronis Cloud Backup.

"We are constantly looking to expand our portfolio in order to provide greater value to our stakeholders. Acronis fills a crucial gap on the software side of our back-up offering, enabling us to provide a far more complete portfolio to the benefit of our customers," says Juan Paul Gough, solutions architect at Mustek.

Local businesses, he adds, face many challenges around data backup, such as securing personal identifiable information, competitive pricing strategies and company financials.

"Internal and external information protection are extremely important to remain confidential to protect a business in the current economic climate. Confidential information that lands up in the wrong hands could be devastating to a business, not only from a revenue perspective, but also from a regulatory perspective. For this reason, it is extremely important to have protected backup copies of your operation. Business continuation is a key factor when considering recovery and restoration options," explains Gough.

The solutions, he adds, are targeted at individual consumers, SMEs, mid-market and large enterprises in SA, regardless of whether their business boasts an on premises backup, cloud backup or taking a hybrid approach to its infrastructure.

"With the ever-increasing threat of cyber attacks with estimated losses of $5 billion in 2017 on ransomware alone, it's become more important than ever for businesses and consumers alike to have peace of mind that they have a reliable backup solution in place. Preventative measures like anti-virus alone are not enough and we all need to be prepared should the unthinkable happen if we find ourselves in the midst of a system exploit. Acronis offers that peace of mind," concludes Gough.

Mustek's wide range of distributed brands in SA include IT products and service companies such as Mecer, Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba, Samsung.
