T-Systems has won a R43 million contract with Senwes Agricultural Company to implement a SAP-IS (Industry Solution) retail solution for its trade division and for the migration of its mainframe to a client/server architecture.

The deal is aimed at standardising Senwes`s business operations and improving functionality in support of its changing business operations.

T-Systems says the solution will integrate all Senwes`s applications onto a common architecture.

"Senwes has moved from a mainframe to an open system in order to increase its system functionality, which will result in a lower cost of ownership over the next five years," says Senwes IT manager Leon Hunter.

The Enterprise Business Solutions team will work on the SAP retail implementation and the point of sale solutions.

It will also implement SAP production planning and control for the manufacturing of irrigation systems at the Uraniaville Manufacturing Plant. The collaboration, integration and media team will support the Microsoft .Net aspect while the desktop services and solutions team will replace the old terminals with new point of sale terminals supporting the new infrastructure.

The telecommunications services team will upgrade the network and the computing services team will install and manage the new client/server architecture. Solution crafting will provide business consulting support and guide the programme kick-off and blueprint phases.
