Africa Teen Geeks announces Afronovate

Johannesburg, 15 Apr 2021

Africa Teen Geeks has been announced as a strategic partner to leading technology summit, Africa Tech Week, in collaboration with UNICEF, Apodytes and Independent Media. Afronovate's objective is to expose young people, aged 6-18, to the African technology ecosystem and to create a digital programme that educates and inspires African children to be participants in the growth of the tech industry in Africa.

This year’s Africa Tech Week Conference will be held virtually on 5 and 6 May 2021. Africa Tech Week is a leading conference, exhibition and award summit for technology professionals who believe that true digital transformation across the continent requires co-operation between business leaders, governments and civil society.

Africa Teen Geeks is proud to announce that CEO, Lindiwe Matlali, will be one of the key speakers at the 2021 Africa Tech Week Summit, alongside Thomas Davin, UNICEF’S Global Innovation Director; Dr Marian Croak, VP of Engineering at Google; and Namibia’s Deputy Minister of ICT Hon Emma Theofelus.

The Africa Tech Week Summit promotes digital transformation across Africa and the globe by connecting government, corporate business leaders and strong figureheads within the tech industry.

Africa Teen Geeks aims to drive change across the continent and to equip young people with skills and knowledge surrounding coding and app development, while linking young people to mentors who will inspire them to be Africa’s next tech innovators and entrepreneurs.

In the build-up to the event, the following initiatives have been planned:

  1. School Holiday Coding and Robotics Workshops from 24 to 28 April 2021.
  2. Kids innovative coding competition.

More details about Afronovate will be shared on the Africa Teen Geeks Web site, social media and other available communication platforms. The platforms will also publish more insight into the nature and rules of the coding competition, as well as the dates and registration requirements for the coding and robotics workshops.
