Cornastone buys SYSDBA stake

Johannesburg, 07 Nov 2006

Black-owned IT services and solutions company Cornastone Enterprise Systems has acquired a 51% stake in SYSDBA, an IT infrastructure optimisation specialist.

The transaction opens new doors into the grid computing and infrastructure optimisation environments for Cornastone Enterprise Systems, it said in a statement. It believes this is the area in which companies will begin to focus more of their IT infrastructure spend in the coming years.

Lufuno Nevhutalu, executive chairman of Cornastone, says: "Both companies' offerings are complementary. Together we are able to unlock the value in our clients' investment in IT infrastructure."

In addition to running a consulting business, SYSDBA is a distributor for PolyServe Matrix Server, Platform Enterprise grid solutions, Zeus ZXTM traffic management and server virtualisation from Virtual Iron. Nevhutalu adds that as a result of this transaction, both companies' clients now have a one-stop-shop for their infrastructure and optimisation needs.

"While infrastructure optimisation products and services are still a niche sell and require specialised consulting and support skills, companies are rapidly opening up to the benefits of flexible architectures that improve utilisation of the hardware and increase the availability of applications," says Chris Bamber, MD of SYSDBA.

Cornastone Enterprise Systems and SYSDBA say the transaction will broaden the scope of their offerings.

"We are looking forward to working much closer with Cornastone Enterprise Systems," says Bamber. "We are also excited to be able to offer our clients a total solution based on best-of-breed products from our software stable and Cornastone Enterprise Systems' hardware stable."
