The golden thread

At Kemtek, we place a firm emphasis on quality in all our additive manufacturing solutions, and this extends to the range of consumables and filaments we offer. Selecting the most appropriate filament for each additive manufacturing (AM) or fused filament fabrication (FFF) task is vital. It requires a consideration of attributes such as tensile strength, heat resistance and ability to survive challenging environments and contact with multiple chemicals.

Depending on the intended use, specialty attributes may also be required. In essence, the correct choice of filament opens up a world of niche, low-volume manufacturing that can produce prototypes and specialised parts, and help bring new products to market that much faster.

As part of our AM solutions offering, Kemtek supplies a wide range of filaments from leading manufacturers Creality, Spectrum and Zortrax, in addition to our newly launched proprietary Kemtek Fila-Ment range, developed with a leading Chinese OEM to meet the needs of the South African market.

Creality – the first name in creativity

Available from October 2021, the Creality range of filaments allows you to express your creativity through multiple colour and finish options. Environmentally sensitive materials help you minimise your ecological footprint, while maximising the business impact of your AM processes.

The Creality CR range includes ABS, Carbon, PLA and TPU filaments for multiple industrial design applications, and speciality finishes including Silk and Glitter. With Creality filaments, the only limit to what you can create is your imagination.

The full Spectrum

Kemtek also distributes Spectrum filaments, including industrial- and medical-grade products that are proving their worth in ground-breaking rapid prototyping and implant and transplant applications. Spectrum’s enduring quality has seen its filaments used in a great number of pioneering projects, improving the lives of patients and helping manufacturing companies save time and money, and gain a vital competitive edge.

Spectrum filaments are known for invaluable properties such as minimal shrinkage, excellent creep resistance and exceptional cohesion, greatly increasing the range of applications they can be used in.

The Zortrax range

Zortrax produces a range of filaments of varying specifications, each engineered to meet a defined need. No matter how niche your application, you’ll find a Zortrax filament with the properties you require.

With Zortrax, you’ll always be able to deliver on your 3D printing promises.

A brand you can trust

With the launch of the Kemtek Fila-Ment range, we have combined our knowledge of the local additive manufacturing market with the expertise and commitment to quality of our manufacturing partner to create a range of AM filaments that will offer an affordable price point without compromising on specifications. The Kemtek Fila-Ment range is now in stock and comprises the following options:

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)

Strong, tough and durable, ABS offers good resistance to heat, pressure, stress and everyday chemicals, making it ideal for ‘wear and tear’ prints. ABS is less brittle than PLA and offers clog- and bubble-free 3D printing within strict tolerances.

PLA

Odourless PLA filament can be used for indoor printing and in sensitive environments, and is compatible with a wide range of 3D printers. PLA filament is also available in a range of specialty varieties including PLA Silk (biodegradable, low-temperature filament with a stunning pearlescent shine); PLA Carbon Fibre (stronger than PLA and gives the appearance of Carbon Fibre without the complications of true carbon fibre filament); and PLA Plus (strong, low shrinkage, highly adhesive filament that is ideal for most manufacturing and mechanical component applications).

PETG

PETGs (or copolyester) are glycol-modified PETs with an irregular molecular structure, which gives a clear, amorphous resin with a higher glass transition temperature. PETGs can be used across a wider processing range than conventional PETs and offer a good combination of desirable properties such as toughness, clarity and stiffness.

Wood PLA

A non-toxic, biodegradable, low-shrinkage filament that produces results that closely reassembles solid wood. With 10% real wood flour mixed with 90% PLA, this wood fibre mix is eco-friendly, 100% green and has a fresh timber smell.

Nylon

Incredibly strong, durable and versatile, nylon offers both flexibility and strength, making it ideal for functional parts. Its low friction coefficient and high melting temperature make it an excellent choice for friction-prone components like 3D printed gears.

TPU

TPU flexible filament is non-toxic, easy to feed, easy to form and extremely resilient. It is highly resistant to abrasion, oils and greases, and is an excellent choice for children’s toys and shoes.

ASA

ASA is an impact modified resin composed of acrylonitrile, styrene and acrylic rubber that offers high dimensional stability and good chemical resistance, making it ideal for prototyping, outdoor applications and automotive components.
