FCC rules on number portability

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has voted to shorten to one day the interval within which telecommunications carriers must transfer numbers to other carriers, reports VOIP News.

The current interval is four days, which means customers who choose to switch to new services while keeping their existing landline numbers may have to wait nearly a week if they make their decisions near a weekend.

The FCC has also voted to require VOIP providers to give customers and regulatory agencies reasonable notice before shutting down services.

Verizon, Avaya expand offerings

Verizon Business and Avaya have expanded their joint-offerings for VOIP and contact centre capabilities, and Sprint Nextel has spelled out their unified communications strategy for both wireless and wireline offers, says Network World.

Paget Alves, president of business markets group at Sprint says: "We are converging wireless and wireline technologies into an unprecedented user experience that is fully mobile, flexible, feature-rich, simplified and cost-efficient."

Verizon Business and Avaya have completed interoperability testing and certification of the Avaya Communication Manager 5.1.1/SES 5.1.1 and Avaya Communication Manager Branch with the Verizon IP contact centre and Verizon IP trunking platforms.

China VOIP subsidiary wins award

Jinan Yinquan Technology, the wholly owned subsidiary of China VOIP and Digital Telecom has revealed that the company and its International Business Communication Centre (IBCC) platform was awarded at the Shandong E-Commerce Development and Innovation Conference, states Business Wire.

Jinan Yinquan was named the 'Model e-commerce company of Shandong'. In addition, Yinquan's IBCC platform was selected as 'The most valuable e-commerce product of Shanodong'.

Recently, the company's IBCC platform had been endorsed as the designated communication service platform for the 11th National Games of China.
