Facebook, the world's biggest social media platform, has restored services on its social networking platform, as well as Instagram and WhatsApp, after a massive outage over the weekend.
Although Facebook did not provide details on what caused the blackout, a Facebook spokesperson told Reuters: "Earlier today, some people may have experienced trouble connecting to the family of apps. The issue has since been resolved; we're sorry for any inconvenience."
It is also not clear how many users were impacted by the outage, but according to Downdetector.com, a Web site which monitors outages, yesterday there were more than 9 000 incidents of people reporting issues with Facebook.
Downdetector.com's live outage map showed the issues mainly cropped up in Europe and Asia.
It adds there were more than 3 000 incidents of people reporting issues with messaging app WhatsApp and over 7 000 with photo-sharing platform Instagram.
Last month, Facebook's apps, including Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, went down for nearly a whole day throughout North America and Europe. Facebook said the outage was due to a "server configuration change".
In January, the Instagram app crashed while WhatsApp users worldwide were unable to send or receive messages.
