Dermot Reidy

Senior Development Adviser, Enterprise Ireland

Dermot Reidy is a Senior Development Adviser at Enterprise Ireland - specialising in Internationally Traded Services in the Construction Industry. He also consults internationally, working mainly in Africa and The Middle East on Trade and FDI issues.

Dermot has spent his working life in the construction industry and has specialised in the marketing of construction services, particularly in the international markets. He has direct personal experience of EU, African, Middle Eastern and American markets. Before joining Enterprise Ireland, Dermot held the position of Senior Trade Advisor (UKTI) and Second Secretary, Commercial, at the British Embassy in Dublin - specialising in the infrastructure brief. Before that he was based in Johannesburg South Africa as Commercial Director at Thorn EMI and previously Marketing Manager at Kentz.

His brief stint at Enterprise Ireland encompasses all aspects of the internationalisation of Irish construction services organisations and as a result he has developed CPD programmes with the RIAI, AECI and the CIF. In addition to these, he has also been closely involved in both the development and the delivery of two iterations of Enterprise Ireland’s Leadership 4 Growth (L4G) programme, which were specifically for Irish the Construction industry and delivered in conjunction with Duke Corporate Education, and also with the development and delivery of the Graduate 4 International Growth programme. He has also managed the delivery of Enterprise Ireland’s Management 4 Growth – Construction Supply Chain Programme. Construction clients are now major exports contributors to the Irish economy and have achieved their major success mainly in the design and construction of Data Centres and Pharmaceutical facilities for international clients across Europe and the Middle East.

In 2007, Dermot was conferred with a M.Sc - Construction Project Management from Waterford Institute of Technology for his dissertation 'Growth through Internationalisation'. In 2018, Dermot was conferred with a M.Phil - Management Strategy from UCD Graduate Business School, following applied research in the area of (Irish) construction business strategy and performance

Dermot’s presentation will demonstrate the capability of the Irish construction industry to, at all levels, design, project manage, construct, commission and maintain both hyperscale and colocation data centre facilities. He will additionally talk to the themes of switching, governance and data sharing, global connectivity, data latency and storage demand as drivers for the global data industry.
