Makabongwe Siziba joined the KwaZulu Natal Department of Social Development in 2013, to align the information management and technology strategy with the strategic direction of the department. At present, he manages the information and communication technology function of the department, ensuring the establishment of sound information management systems.

This is accomplished by promoting effective management of technology and information as a strategic enabler to achieve business objectives. His role is evolving as he becomes a key strategic business leader. He is currently pursuing MPhil IT Governance with Nelson Mandela University, focusing on IT Governance, IT Risk Management, Assurance and IT Law.

He holds a BTech degree in Information Technology from Cape Peninsula University of Technology and a National Diploma in Information Technology from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. He also holds internationally recognised professional education certificates including CIO professional practice certificate, Certified Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), COBIT 5 Foundation, and PRINCE 2 Foundation, PRINCE 2 Practitioner, ITIL 3 Foundation, CCNA 1 – 4, Java Programming and IT Essentials.
