Call of duty smashes records

On the day Call of duty: modern warfare 2 was released last week, the video game raked in $310 million in North America and the UK, selling more than 4.7 million copies, writes Philadelphia Inquirer.

That amounts to a record release for any form of entertainment, eclipsing the one-day mark set by Grand Theft Auto IV last year.

Compare that, for instance, to its movie industry equivalent, 2012. Hollywood's hottest ticket opened in those same regions with $76 million. For its first three days.

Sony PS3 to support 3D display

Sony will be hard at work making the PS3 compatible with upcoming displays supporting stereoscopic 3D technology, says Neoseeker.

The 3D presentation generally requires the use of new-fangled eyepieces that users don to witness the stereoscopic effects.

Sony is already in the process of implementing stereoscopic 3D into its line-up of HDTVs, and the company hopes to get a PS3 firmware update out around the timeframe these new 3D displays are rolled out, to let early adopters witness the advantages of the technology from day one.

AMD intros “fastest” graphics card

Calling it “the fastest graphics card in the world,” AMD has released the ATI Radeon HD 5970, according to TMCnet.

The dual-chip high-end card features two clock-speed-reduced Radeon HD 5870 GPUs on a single graphics card. According to AMD, this next-generation powerhouse brings together cutting-edge graphic, display and memory technology to offer an unprecedented graphics performance and unrivalled HD gaming experience.

The card also features support for Microsoft DirectX 11 technology and ATI Eyefinity multi-display technology. Eyefinity technology can drive up to three displays at once for a 7680x1600 maximum resolution.
