Everyone is stretching their IT hardware to the max, waiting for the economy to turn or the rand to improve. You may consider trading in your computers to make it viable right now.

Go Rentals recently partnered with Tarsus Dispose-IT to launch IT Hardware Trade-Ins to its customers.

“It allows our customers to recover value in cash from their IT hardware, towards a refresh,” says Ron Keschner, Group Sales and Marketing Director at Go Rentals.

Ideal time to trade in hardware

IT hardware is one of the fastest depreciating assets. Once you have taken delivery, you lose a large portion of the value. “The ideal time to trade in IT hardware is between three and four years,” says Ron Keschner, Group Sales and Marketing Director at Go Rentals. “At this stage, it has the best second-hand value. Tarsus Dispose-IT can refurbish, upgrade and resell the hardware, and because of this, can offer the highest values.”

“Beyond four years, the value starts to drop off rapidly,” he adds. “However, we have put in place the best value offerings in the market, even for older kit.”

For trade-ins, Go Rentals chose Tarsus Dispose-IT, which is a subsidiary of the Tarsus Technology Group, leader in South African IT hardware distribution.

Often, corporates don’t like the idea of reselling computer hardware, due to security concerns as well as the hassle factor. When you trade in your car, many people prefer to deal with a reputable dealer, as sales transactions can be daunting. With IT hardware, it gets a lot more complicated.

Tarsus Dispose-IT, together with Go Rentals, provides a turnkey solution including all the reverse logistics, POPI compliant data sanitisation of all devices, environmentally-friendly e-waste recycling, and writes a cheque for the value.

How to do it

To get a value for your assets you wish to trade in, you can simply send an asset list, or have a valuer come and see you.

Trade-in values are paid as a lump sum, but some customers choose to offset it against a new rental or purchase. “We also offer buy-and-rent-back for companies wanting a cash-back injection for their IT hardware, or seeking to reduce costs by moving to our ‘Hardware-as-a-Service’ rental.
