In September 2019, IBM announced new mainframe technology, including the new IBM Z and LinuxONE servers, as well as the next generation of IBM DS8000 enterprise storage systems designed for those platforms.

In October, IBM followed this up with the announcement of new high-end virtual tape libraries for mainframe environments.
