Businesses have a new tool helping them rapidly respond to change by adapting products and services, processes, and technologies to meet customer demands and increase their relevance and competitiveness.

Using low-code platforms to create and manipulate a new breed of APIs makes it possible to access and share information quickly and securely. Non-coders can, for the first time, develop solutions that require software-to-software interfaces. It demonstrates that low-code or no-code platforms have evolved. They are no longer just for innovators and early adopters. These platforms are targeted at the non-technical layman, citizen developers, and businesspeople.

In fact, many companies say their organisation is already using low-code platforms. Thirty-four per cent of respondents to a Forrester query say their organisation already has a low-code platform. Another 9% say they're about to start using one. If that's representative of the entire market then low-code has already crossed the chasm and is well on its way to being adopted by the majority, according to Forrester's The State of Application Development 2018 report.

But around 60% report their main challenge is legacy system integration and APIs. Fuzzy and changing requirements, plus the time required to test and assure quality, are two further challenges, Forrester notes.

Applications typically share and receive information via API. However, APIs can be technical and require skilled coders to program. But now you get low-code APIs. It redefines how we create APIs for micro services for the Web, mobile, and IOT solutions. Users themselves can now create APIs, integrate data across diverse data sources, and implement security and business rules at the most granular level of encapsulation by simple point and click.

It means you can now have secure APIs and services that foster rapid development, are cost-efficient, and easy to maintain. Low-code APIs mean developers can rapidly enable services by integrating data from diverse sources. This capability means you have the speed, simplicity, and maintainability micro services, APIs, new data schemas, source and system integration projects, embedded security, and related activities demand.
