FleetDomain growth milestone.
FleetDomain, a Smollan Technologies company, has revealed a record 417% growth in assets managed over figures released at the end of 2022. The company operates in the fleet management sector delivering globally competitive software solutions for the maintenance, administration and monitoring of driver behaviour.
The South African fleet management and telematics industry is a multibillion-rand market featuring an estimated 2.4 million to 2.8 million active commercial fleet systems.
“This is one of the fastest growing markets in the world and an exciting sector in which to be a dominant SA player. A current global trend is around IOT solutions using AI and machine learning to effect predictive maintenance on fleet vehicles,” says Jai Kalyan, Managing Director, FleetDomain. “This enables companies to be aware and plan for necessary vehicle maintenance before they break down.”
FleetDomain software is developed and managed by a team of fleet professionals with decades of hands-on experience in the arena. “We apply tried and tested best practices. Our Fleet Information and Asset Management software is purpose-built to simplify and automate all aspects of fleet maintenance management and administration,” he notes.
Jai Kalyan, Managing Director, FleetDomain.
Kalyan asserts the past four years has seen the company record phenomenal growth and expanded presence in the market. “Thus far, in 2026 alone, the business has reached this milestone with the management of more than 130 000 assets, which reflects significant growth,” says Kalyan.
“In 2022, we recorded 80% of our growth being due to new business and exciting additions to our client profile, which has proved to be only the tip of the iceberg in terms of our market penetration,” he says.
Kalyan attributes the growth and success to various factors including the company’s in-house developed software designed and managed by a team of fleet professionals with more than three decades experience in the industry. “This wealth of knowledge and expertise has allowed us to create solutions that are tailored to the unique needs of fleet managers and operators.
“To ensure our solutions remain current and effective, we keep a close eye on industry trends and legislation. This allows us to adapt our offerings to changing market conditions, providing our customers with the most relevant and up-to-date tools and features. Simply put, our business is comprised of some of the finest software engineers, focused on delivering business solutions to business problems. Our deep understanding of the fleet industry and commitment to staying ahead of the curve translates into us delivering proven software solutions have been designed to support our customers’ business goals and stay ahead of their competition."
Kalyan confirms that experts agree that running an unmanaged fleet in 2026 amplifies financial strain due to high inflation in various areas, including: parts and labour, volatile fuel prices and surging commercial auto insurance premiums. “Without active oversight, businesses suffer from accelerated asset depreciation, unmonitored driver behaviour and expensive reactive maintenance rather than cost-saving preventive care,” he adds.
Kalyan says that unmanaged fleets can result in costs that are 10%-15% higher than companies with a robust fleet management system in place. “Resultingly, fleet managers are now recognising the immense value that a fleet management system can offer to their businesses through leveraging it to assist in reducing their total cost of ownership (TCO) and improve return on investment (ROI),” adds Kalyan.
He highlights FleetDomain solutions are designed to address the unique challenges facing fleet managers and operators today. “Businesses seeking cost reduction solutions, improved safety or operational efficiency enhancement are increasingly looking to FleetDomain’s team of experts to provide tailored solutions that meet the market needs,” concludes Kalyan.
