CINX – keeping costs in check

Johannesburg, 10 Sep 2019

Peering is the process of network operators agreeing to exchange traffic with each other without any funds changing hands. In the past few years, peering has taken off in South Africa, resulting in significant cost savings. At xneelo, we’re passing these savings directly on to our customers.

The efforts of the Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) to expand the geographical locations of their Internet exchanges has made it possible for xneelo to expand its peering. On Tuesday, 21 August 2019, we started routing our first packets of data via CINX, the Cape Town Internet eXchange Point, which is run by ISPA.

Xneelo now peers at both ISPA and NAP Africa’s peering points in both Cape Town and Johannesburg. These connections ensure the fastest and most cost-effective Internet traffic paths to a large number of network operators. They also provide an additional failover network route to those network operators who are present on both exchange points in each location.

CINX is one more way we’re working to make it as simple and cost-effective as possible for our customers to create and interact online.
