John Roberts has worked in the industrial and mining environment for the last 25 years and has worked in a number of different disciplines generally focusing on process and business improvement areas. He started his working career as a physical metallurgist in an industrial plant, including a stint of optimising production methods, moving on to responsibility for quality and environmental systems. He implemented corporate reporting databases and managed complex reporting processes to a board level on issues of sustainable development. During his career, he visited many of the countries in which Anglo American operates and gained experience especially in auditing safety throughout the mining environment. He left this field after an extended period of heading up the delivery team and transferred to an information management role to take responsibility for Anglo's fledgling BI efforts.
