The new Lumia 435 is the most affordable Lumia to date, says Microsoft.

One of Microsoft's latest low-cost smartphones and the first in the 400 series, the Lumia 435, is now available in SA from R1 150.

Positioned as "the most affordable Lumia yet", the Lumia 435 features a 4-inch display and runs Windows 8.1. It sports a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a 2MP camera (no flash) and has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, with up to 128GB of expandable memory.

For the month of March the Microsoft Lumia 435 will be available exclusively at Ackermans, on Vodacom prepaid.

GM of Microsoft mobile devices, Shaun Durandt, says there has been unprecedented adoption of smartphones across SA - a reality that makes it clear "people want a phone that is capable of performing more than just basic tasks".

"The advantage of Lumia remains its ability to provide an almost consistent level of usability, even with entry level devices. This performance is supplemented with integrated offerings like Office, OneDrive and Skype."

Microsoft unveiled the Lumia 435 in January, together with another low-cost model, the Lumia 532.

At the time, the local availability and pricing of the devices was not confirmed, but Microsoft estimated the Lumia 435 would cost around EUR69 (about R930), while it said the Lumia 532 should cost around EUR79 (about R1 000) before taxes and subsidies.
