Mainframes are making a comeback and Attachmate is ready to accept the challenge, said Christopher E. Olson during an Attachmate Host Access Management Tour. "To do so, we are shifting our focus from a client/host company to a host access company," he said. Olson said the majority of world`s data still resides on mainframes, making host connectivity a major IT issue. He said Attachmate is in the midst of creating a new market called "host access management". The company is the leader of the pack, offering six different ways for access of host data, including Java, ActiveX and HTML-on-the-fly, Olson said. Olson also said Attachmate is the only connectivity company that offers both ActiveX and Java host access components as well as built-in VPN (virtual private network) functionality at no cost. Attachmate announced a whole array of host access products spanning from Host Access Server to Host Publishing System "which allows companies to establish instant and strong Web presence based on host data".
