The Automobile Association of SA (AASA) has derived huge business benefits from E-valuate, a competency-based evaluation tool developed by Ulwazi Digital Information (UDI).

The AASA needed to run an assessment of competence on its technical patrol staff nationwide. E-valuate provides a detailed analysis of the level of competency of an individual, a group of individuals or the organisation as a whole.

Mandy Venter, HR Manager of the AASA, said: "This tool was tailored to our needs and was the only one of its kind that we knew about. It saves our company time and can be applied on a national basis. There are a total of 130 users at present."

E-valuate provides HR personnel with the ability to map career path development of employees and enables competency tests of potential employees, existing employees in specific areas, employees for possible promotion, skills transfer management and surveys.

According to Venter, E-valuate has been successfully integrated with the AASA`s learning management system. "We have not extended this tool to its full extent and capability, but it is definitely something to look at for the future," she says.

Derek Naidoo, MD of UDI, stated: "E-valuate was developed in 1997 by our developers and software engineers. As the software is platform independent, clients have flexibility in the deployment. "

"This evaluation tool has allowed us to establish the current levels of competency within the technical patrol force. It provides an objective assessment of their capabilities," says Venter.

This implementation was done overnight and has been running successfully ever since. The relationship has gone beyond the implementation and AASA has outsourced its technical training department to UDI. Commenting on future plans, Venter says the AASA is currently in discussion with a broad range of possibilities with UDI, which could include E-valuate.

UDI provides a complete offering to customers, including hardware, software, consulting, training management solutions and database development and management. UDI is a 100% black-owned organisation which takes a special interest in the empowerment of previously disadvantaged individuals.
