CHM Vuwani wraps up installations

Johannesburg, 24 Oct 2003

CHM Vuwani, First Technology`s black economic empowerment partner, is completing a series of nine network installations for several KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) government departments in contracts worth R10.5 million.

CHM Vuwani executive consultant Mike Elston says the upgrade of the networking infrastructure at the KZN Department of Transport`s head offices is expected to begin next week.

"This will be the last of the network upgrades and the contract is worth about R900 000. We`re also putting in a new power backbone and cabling at the parliamentary buildings in Pietermaritzburg, connecting all the political party offices and the legislative assembly. That contract is worth R700 000 and will be completed early next year."

Elston says many of these opportunities have been a result of the company`s partnership with the Tecor Group. The two biggest contracts were for Greys Hospital in Pietermaritzburg and the Department of Health`s Natalia Building.

"We completely upgraded the Greys` backbone infrastructure with 10km of fibre optic cable and some very powerful 3Com switches to the value of R1.8 million. A similar upgrade was done at the Department of Health`s Natalia building for R3.5 million," he says.

CHM Vuwani has also completed projects at the Department of Education in Vryheid, an installation in the Ezekeni district, a large cabling installation for the Department of Defence in Ladysmith for R1 million, a project for the Department of Traditional and Local Government Affairs, and switching upgrades at the Department of Finance`s Treasury House.
