Evaluate V 4.0 is an online needs analysis and assessment tool, widely used to determine training and required skills competencies and was recently released by Ulwazi Digital Information (UDI) (Pty) Ltd. It provides a detailed analysis of the level of competency of an individual, a group of individuals or the organisation as a whole.

The need for training in SA has grown over the past decade. Organisations need to accurately determine the training requirements and current skills competencies of its workforce. UDI has creatively utilised technology as a tool to accurately and objectively meet this requirement.

General Motors South Africa (GMSA) uses Evaluate V4.0 with its Web-based technology to determine the training requirements and competency/knowledge levels of both its internal workforce and its dealer network.

Assessments are preset and formulated in a randomly assessed question bank where tests are created and made available to the workforce. The analysis of the results of these online assessments are utilised by GMSA to accurately determine the training needs of both technological and non-technological staff. This allows the organisation to plan both strategy and operation in a format that meets the requirements of the individuals as well as the needs of the dealer training and development department to satisfy these demands.

Evaluate is a user-friendly application, easy to maintain, update and customise, and allows users access to certain functions specific to their predetermined roles.

The significance of training needs analysis is paramount in the processes of organisational change, succession planning and determining individual, departmental, regional and organisational performance.

Norman H Hadskins, National Dealer Manpower Development Manager at GMSA, says: "We believe in the process of analysing the current needs and requirements, developing training interventions, focusing on delivery and implementing continuous assessments to ensure increased productivity and improved efficiency of our dealer network workforce."
