Green issues are becoming more and more important within the ICT sector and particularly so in South Africa where we are very dependent on the electricity generated from our numerous coal burning power stations.
As a direct consequence of situations like this, application solutions that are oriented around the use of data centres significantly impact the environment positively for many reasons; and the Mimecast solution is one such example.
"For every single server in the Mimecast data centre, we save the need for 250 servers in the field," commented Garth Wittles, Managing Director of Mimecast SA. "This is turn reduces hazardous waste products, which is important since PCs (servers) are problematic when it comes to recycling.
"In addition, this reduction in the number of servers also saves the electricity that would have been consumed addressing the heat dissipation associated with these devices and, of course, reduces the carbon footprint," continued Wittles.
"Although Mimecast is but one small application example, it does highlight some of the concerns being expressed re the environment and the global warming that we are experiencing," concluded Wittles. "Mimecast is doing its part; hopefully, other vendors are following suit."
