Kanban Change Leadership

By ScrumSense
Johannesburg, 11 Mar 2013

There is an old saying that people do not object to change; they object to being changed. When leaders in organisations find themselves dissatisfied with the status quo, arguably the hardest thing for them to do is to learn to manage the change they want to bring about.

One of the fastest-growing methods for managing change, especially in technology-focused work, is known as the Kanban Method. It is counted among the modern Lean and Agile methods and was emerged from 2004 by David Anderson. In the period of less than a decade since then, Kanban has captured a quarter of the Agile market, which is hailed as the successor to traditional techniques. In fact, Gartner has predicted that 80% of software projects in 2013 will be developed using Agile methods.

Kanban is remarkable for the fact that it does not demand any upfront organisational change to initiate implementation. This makes it immediately appealing as a 'safe' way to start and manage an evolutionary change process.

Dr Klaus Leopold, one of the thought leaders in the Kanban arena, teamed up with Dr Sigi Kaltenecker, an organisational development consultant and leadership mentor, to write the first book combining the Kanban Method with modern change management practices. This book, "Kanban in IT: Creating a Culture of Continuous Improvement" (in German), was published in 2012 and is now the basis for an intensive, three-day training class, called "Kanban Change Leadership".

Scrum Sense, a leading consultancy in the Agile arena, is proud to announce that the Kanban Change Leadership course will be run twice this year in South Africa by Dr Leopold and Dr Kaltenecker.
