Marshal announces latest secure Web gateway solution

Marshal continues to accelerate its secure Web gateway strategy with the release of WebMarshal 6.1

London, 03 Jun 2008

Secure e-mail and Web gateway security provider Marshal today announced the availability of WebMarshal 6.1.

This latest release delivers important new features in the areas of HTTPS content security, Web application control for instant messaging and streaming media, and Microsoft ISA Server integration.

Uniquely, WebMarshal 6.1 enables the most granular policies to be enforced to control access to encrypted HTTPS sites based on certificate properties such as valid, self-signed or expired certificates. HTTPS content scanning ensures that users can only use secured sites that meet approved standards; and that all content flowing in and out of an organisation strictly conforms to internal policies and external regulatory requirements.

"Not only does WebMarshal 6.1 add HTTPS content scanning, closing a potential loophole for viruses to enter and confidential information to leave an organisation," said Bradley Anstis, Vice-President of Products at Marshal. "But it also provides greater control over employee use of instant messaging and streaming media, which can be a serious drain on both productivity and bandwidth."

The Internet has become a rich resource for media and entertainment as well as social networking and communications. WebMarshal 6.1 delivers further Web application control over instant messaging and streaming media. These new features significantly enhance the ability to manage Web content that users are accessing over HTTP. Customers can now implement policies to allow, or block, a range of streaming video protocols; including Apple QuickTime Audio/Video (RTSP), Google Video, Microsoft Windows Media, Real Media and YouTube. Instant messaging can also be explicitly allowed or blocked; supported instant messaging systems include AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger.

WebMarshal 6.1 now also offers tight integration with Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA) to make deployment easier, as no client-side browser changes are required. WebMarshal 6.1 provides additional management tools with a Real-Time Dashboard giving a dynamic view of recent Web traffic activity and system performance which administrators will find indispensable.

"I am very pleased with the rapid progress our development teams are making to deliver on our vision of the Secure Web Gateway," said Anstis. "This has been, and will continue to be, the largest development project we are currently undertaking and WebMarshal 6.1 provides customers with greater security against threats, control over a wider range of Web-based content and applications, and deeper protection against data leakage."

WebMarshal - a three-in-one secure Web gateway that goes beyond URL filtering to combine technologies for Web access control, data leakage prevention and Web threat security into one easy-to-manage and highly scalable solution.
