Mobility 'boosts print demand'

Johannesburg, 26 Feb 2014

Flying in the face of predictions that offices would use less paper as technology advanced, they are now using more than ever before. This growth in demand for printed documents is being driven in part by the growth in smart mobile devices, says HP.

Nosipho Simelane, HP South Africa category manager for printing, says the phenomenal growth in smartphone and tablet PC shipments globally is fuelling demand for print solutions that support mobility.

"Enterprises are seeing real value in being able to access and use their work-related applications anywhere, anytime," says Simelane. "But as they do so, users are also discovering a need to print documents on the fly wherever they are. For example, they may want to remotely access a sales brochure and print out the pdf at a client's site, or they might need to print a copy of a signed contract or spreadsheet for filing or collaboration in a meeting. While it is entirely possible to share this content on-device, many executives prefer the option of quickly and easily printing copies of the documents from their mobile devices."

HP expects this trend to pick up as growing numbers of enterprises enable the mobile workforce.

"We are enabling mobile printing through our ePrint platform, which allows users to access the network and print to any Web-connected printer using a mobile device. Users can also use our cloud-enabled solution to print directly from a mobile device to a printer in another region - or even another country."

When enhanced by advanced document management solutions and security, mobile-enabled printing solutions boost enterprise efficiency securely and effectively, she says.
