Objectif Lune and Pitney Bowes bring exceptional pen and paper technology to SA

This new technology allows organisations to integrate the use of pen and paper in a document workflow solution and optimise their order-to-cash cycle.

Cape Town, 25 Jan 2012

Objectif Lune South Africa, established in Cape Town since early 2009, announces local availability of PlanetPress Capture, a new technology that allows organisations to automate business processes upon a document's signature. This new solution is also available within the Objectif Lune channel, and through Pitney Bowes South Africa.

PlanetPress Capture allows users to draw capture zones on business documents. Once the document is printed, an Anoto digital pen captures what is written on paper, either by docking the pen in a cradle or by Bluetooth, and instantly creates an electronic version of the document that includes the handwriting.

“We are very excited to be able to bring such an innovative solution as PlanetPress Capture to the market,” says Michael Springer, Managing Director of Pitney Bowes South Africa, a global technology leader in mailstream and office solutions. “Digital pen technology has major benefits for paper-intensive organisations.”

Jaap Nieboer, Software Solutions Manager at Pitney Bowes, elaborates: “The technology essentially bridges the gap between signature capture and document output management. There are numerous benefits, including enhanced workflow and time saving. This solution eliminates the need for extraneous printing and paper records. It is a great way for a company to reduce its carbon footprint.”

According to a study by Manufacturing Insights, 80% of transactions in most businesses today are paper-based. They require manual processing, which often leads to errors and impacts the most crucial process of a healthy business; the order-to-cash cycle. The manual processing for data entry, scanning and filing is time-consuming and delays other processes such as invoicing. In addition, business forms can be damaged or lost, making payment recovery tedious, sometimes impossible.

PlanetPress Capture accelerates the order-to-cash cycle by capturing what is written on any transactional document instantaneously and converting it into digital data. The information is readily available within the organisation without the need for data entry, scanning or filing.

This new technology is integrated in Objectif Lune's flagship solution called PlanetPress Suite, and adds another input type to its document workflow capabilities. In addition to handling data and documents as input, PlanetPress Suite can now receive signatures or handwritten marks to automatically trigger custom business processes such as printing and e-mailing.

“The digital pen and paper technology has been around for many years,” says Marcel Wijnhorst, Sales Director for Objectif Lune South Africa. “So what makes our solution different? Many things, one of them is that capture zones can be compressed to be printed only where needed as opposed to full-page. This saves toner and speeds up printing significantly. It also enables on-demand production, eliminating the need for costly pre-printed forms. However, what makes our solution really different is its document workflow automation technology. It can trigger any business process at the point of signature. As soon as handwriting is captured by the pen, any action can start, based on pre-defined rules and conditions,” says Wijnhorst.

With PlanetPress Capture, organisations now have access to a complete document life cycle solution that not only allows them to automate business processes for managing the output of their documents, but also to instantly get access to information directly upon a document's signature. This feature is readily available as an integrated feature to existing PlanetPress Production end-users that have a valid maintenance contract. Anoto Digital Pens are also available directly from Objectif Lune and Pitney Bowes South Africa.
