Local Internet service provider (ISP) OpenWeb yesterday announced it has cut its uncapped ADSL prices and is offering savings of up to R99 per month on 100 Silver Uncapped packages.

OpenWeb CEO Keoma Wright says Silver is faster and has a lower contention ratio than its Standard Uncapped offering. “Silver Uncapped is the perfect solution for gamers. With a 15% lower contention ratio than Standard Uncapped, Silver Uncapped was made for the after-hours downloader and gamer.”

Wright says the latest promotion is part of the company's running monthly promotions, as opposed to a response to recent IP Connect price cuts.

He says OpenWeb is “extremely lenient” with its fair usage policy for Silver and Gold Uncapped packages. “During quieter times and after hours, OpenWeb tries to offer an optimal experience to gamers. Silver Uncapped is a shaped service, and generally, during office hours, heavy download protocols will take the lowest priority on the network.

“We have placed a very specific focus on gaming on our Silver and Gold Uncapped services. As gaming mostly takes place after hours, we have prioritised gaming across our premium network, offering our clients the most superior gaming experience.”

He says there is, therefore, no actual fair usage policy, other than the fact that download protocols will be shaped during busy periods. “However, when the network is quiet, clients will be offered an unshaped experience.”

Silver Uncapped packages range from R195 per month for 384Kbps, R299 for 1Mbps, R499 for 4Mbps, to R1 649 per month for 10Mbps.
