Print cost cutting top of mind in 2014

Cutting the cost of printing and document management is becoming a key concern for South African enterprises, says HP.

Johannesburg, 22 Jan 2014

Nosipho Simelane, HP South Africa category manager for printing, says HP is increasingly focusing on meeting enterprise demand for greater efficiency and reduced costs.

"Cost saving is a key priority in the printing arena," says Simelane. "Many South African enterprises are running ageing fleets and trying to maximise their returns on these. However, some of these fleets are now seven to 10 years old, and no amount of cost control on a fleet of this age can match the savings possible using new technologies."

Simelane says one area where massive cost savings are possible is power consumption. In an enterprise running five or more printing devices, significant power savings can be achieved through a more efficient standby mode and better management of the entire printing environment. "In the past decade, HP has been actively increasing the overall energy efficiency of HP ink and laser printing products," she says. The innovative new MFPs, coupled with HP document and device management solutions, are saving customers over 30% on their print costs.

"A great example of the level of savings possible through better control of the environment is the case of a large enterprise customer, which several years ago achieved energy cost savings of over $1.2 million over a three-year period, as well as cutting paper use by an estimated 8 240 metric tons, by optimising its worldwide printing infrastructure, for total cost savings of over $3 million." The customer leveraged HP's Managed Print Services and consolidated its printer fleet with HP MFPs and LaserJet printers, so cutting its global device count by 47% and reducing its energy consumption by over 75%.

"The cost savings possible extend beyond next-generation, power-aware devices," notes Simelane. "Through cloud-based Managed Print Services and a support distributed capture model, enterprises can realise significant cost benefits by reducing wastage and increasing efficiency - which translates into a more productive workforce."

For smaller enterprises, HP's new ink products now coming to market offer a 50% cost saving on competitive laser products.

HP's range of multifunction printing devices, supported by workflow software and soon-to-be-launched cloud-based management tools, are designed to meet the modern enterprise's need to deliver highly efficient document management while still controlling costs.
