ProScan Group expands to deliver enhanced services

By ProScan Systems
Johannesburg, 06 May 2008

The ProScan Group announced today the establishment of three dedicated business units to focus on different key areas of its business.

The rapid expansion and evolution of ProScan's technologies and services over the past two years has necessitated the division of its business into separate operations, with their own sales, marketing and technical teams, as well as specific business strategies and partnerships.

ProScan Distribution

ProScan Distribution will focus on securing and distributing a broad range of global brands of bar coding, data collection, RFID, wireless networking and mobile computing technologies through its channel partners, who include accredited dealers, value-added resellers and system integrators.

Over the years, ProScan has established strong partnership agreements with global technology suppliers, which include Datalogic, Datamax, DRS, Intermec, Microscan, O'Neil, Seagull Scientific and Teklynx.

Voted as Distributor of the Year in the POS Solutions' category in a leading magazine channel awards initiative, the distribution arm of ProScan aims to further deliver improved service levels and channel programmes.

Andrew Fosbrook, ProScan's Group Managing Director, comments: "In this highly competitive distribution market, we hope to gain further market share by providing the right product, at the right price, at the right time.

"With a dedicated channel sales team, ProScan Distribution is headed up by Heinrich von Solms, who has been with ProScan since its inception and has been responsible for the growth and success of our coastal operations."

ProScan Enterprise Mobility

The formation of ProScan Enterprise Mobility is a result of the increased demand for mobile solutions in enterprises, both globally and in southern Africa.

This division will focus on delivering total mobile solutions that increase business efficiencies. Solutions include an extensive range of automated data collection and mobile computing technologies, combined with world-leading application development tools for enabling mobile solutions throughout enterprises. Applications range from GPRS communications, automated data collection, GPS-enabled applications, voice-assisted applications to remote device development and management tools.

Fosbrook adds: "With a full suite of global brands of bar coding, data collection, RFID, wireless networking and mobile computing hardware at its fingertips, ProScan Enterprise Mobility will specialise in developing customised mobile applications around devices, as well as providing a range of professional services - from vendor accredited workshop repair facilities, on site repairs to mobile help-desks that provide outsourced management of all mobile devices."

ProScan Enterprise Mobility will represent leading global mobile technology providers. "We have already secured partnership agreements with ALK Technologies for CoPilot GPS and mapping software and MobileFrame's mobile development platform, as well as Wavelink's device management software," says Fosbrook.

"This division will be headed up by Jan Hurn who has been in the data automation field for many years, and has extensive experience in mobile technology deployment."

ProScan Enterprise Mobility will focus on providing mobile solutions directly and in partnership with system integrators to enterprise customers.

ProScan Media Products

Already established as a separate business unit during 2006, ProScan Media Products will continue to specialise in the local production and supply of self-adhesive and bar code labelling products and printing solutions.

PMP produces self-adhesive, bar code and multi-colour labels in a wide range of materials for all applications, from short life thermal labels to high temperature long life synthetic labels. The recent investment in a six colour printing machine will facilitate the printing of multicolour labels for customers requiring this specialised service.

PMP also manufactures thermal transfer ribbons for multiple applications in different sizes to suit all brands of thermal transfer printers. Labels and ribbons are manufactured to original equipment manufacturers' (OEM) standards.

Roland Pinz remains at the helm of PMP, building on the successful expansion of this business unit over the past two years.

Shared Services

According to Fosbrook, the business units within the group will continue to focus on key vertical markets, which include retail, fast-moving consumer goods, transport and logistics, industrial, services and utilities, pharmaceutical and healthcare.

ProScan Group's head office in Gauteng will assume responsibility for centralised services, which range from accounting, finance, administration, IT to human resources.

"The new structure was effective as of 1 April 2008," concludes Fosbrook, "and should in no way effect current business relationships with current partners and customers. We look forward to delivering enhanced products and services, as these dedicated business units mature in the future."
