SENTECH appoints new CEO

SENTECH, broadcasting signal distributor, is proud to announce the appointment of Mlamli Booi as the company's Chief Executive Officer. Booi commenced his tenure with the company on Tuesday, 13th October 2015 and succeeds Setumo Mohapi who was appointment as the CEO of the State IT Agency (SITA) effective 1st April 2015. SENTECH had in the interim, appointed Rudzani Rasikhinya, then CFO, as Acting CEO.

"The board has confidence in Mr Booi's ability to provide outstanding leadership and he embodies the experience, vision and leadership skills necessary to lead SENTECH to greater heights. His deep understanding of the ICT sector renders him ideally suited to be our next CEO," said Mello Magatho, Chairman of the Board.

Booi has more than 20 years' experience in ICT engineering, policy, regulatory, strategy and management. He has worked in the ICT sector in various positions since 1986. He holds an MSc Degree in Engineering from UCT and a postgraduate diploma in project management. He also holds a Diploma in Company Direction from GIMT (2006). He is a Member of IEEE and IOD South Africa. He will be responsible for working with the SENTECH Board and management team in delivering on the company's strategy and fulfilling its mandate.

"I am honoured by the opportunity to lead SENTECH in my new capacity as CEO," said Booi. "I look forward to working with the leadership team and the Board. No doubt we have a lot of work ahead, but I can assure all our stakeholders that fulfilling the SOC's mandate remains our top priority."

Booi stepped into his new role effective Tuesday, 13th October 2015, with full support of the Board and the management team. SENTECH, in its latest annual results has achieved 80% of its targets in the Corporate Plan making it an ideal operation for the incoming CEO to ensure continued business efficiency.

SENTECH, a South African state-owned company (SOC) is the premier provider of electronic communications network services to the country's broadcasting and communications industry. It provides broadcast transmission services to SABC, eTV, MNet, community broadcasters, and over 150 radio stations countrywide on a daily basis. Its infrastructure and data communications platforms also provide services to South Africa's telecoms sector and mobile providers. SENTECH is mandated by the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS) to drive the migration of the country's broadcasting services from analogue to digital. It has implemented world class digital terrestrial television (DTT) and a universal access direct-to-home (DTH) satellite platform service to ensure access to digital television for the country's people. Its DVB-T2 network will replace the current analogue infrastructure when analogue switch off is announced by government. To date, the DTT network successfully covers 100% of country's population through 84% reach via the DVB-T2 terrestrial network and the remaining 16% via the Satellite DTH network. SENTECH is now focused on developing and rolling out open-access multiscreen platforms that will enrich SA's digital content distribution industry.
