IT security risk analyses are receiving increased attention from small to medium enterprises (SMEs), says Dino Covotsos, MD and founder of hosting and IT solution provider Telspace.
Launched in Johannesburg two and a half years ago to address the security concerns of this growing market segment, Telspace specialises in the provision of managed system security solutions.
"SMEs are attaching more and more importance to security issues as IT becomes increasingly critical to their day to day operations," says Covotsos.
The company`s managed system security solutions cover patching of workstations and servers, firewall and anti-virus implementations, regular vulnerability scans, network security assessments and monitoring, protection of hosted servers, and a 24-hour emergency callout service.
Its network maintenance contracts cover data back-up on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, on-site support on either a per hour or per workstation fee structure, and telephonic support and trouble-shooting. Differing response times can be negotiated from client to client.
Telspace recently spent a month testing ITWeb`s various Web and mail servers, delivering a comprehensive report detailing its findings. "We found a few weaknesses, which we brought to the management`s attention and which were promptly addressed," said Covotsos.
"Our objective is to do independent IT security risk analysis, which we in turn use to provide a complete report on every customer`s network - showing exactly where security weaknesses exist and recommending various options to resolve these. We can also use these details to deliver the intended security, whether it is a small bug fix, or a full-scale firewall solution, he said.
"It`s about minimising the complexity around IT security solutions - after taking a close look at the associated risks and balancing this against the budget available to each customer," Covotsos concluded.
