Electrical contractor Farradays has placed an order for 22 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units with Square One Power Solutions, the UPS specialist in the JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group. The units are being installed by Farradays for Score Stores, a national retail chain within the Pick 'n Pay group.
The order represents the first phase of a country-wide exercise to install 100 QP5000 UPS units, each rated at 5kVA, to protect and support store computers and electronic tills from mains power fluctuations as well as maintain the operation of tills for between 25 and 45 minutes in the event of a mains power failure.
The QP5000 range from Square One Power Solutions is designed and manufactured in SA to meet local conditions. The design philosophy is based on a combination of advanced techniques, simplicity, minimal components, quality manufacturing and rigorous testing to ensure the highest possible degree of stability and reliability.
"These units have single-phase input and output and the basic design ensures that output remains controlled within very close limits with low output distortion. They achieve a high input power factor of typically 0.97 and high system efficiency of typically 95%," says Square One Power Solutions managing director Neil Burnard. "The ability to cope with the harshness of South African conditions in terms of heat, dust and in the coastal area, high humidity, is another advantage."
Installation and commissioning of the units by has begun at the first six stores in Gauteng, following the training of Farradays staff by Square One Power.
