Another acronym, we hear you cry?
True, but SBC, which stands for Session Border Controller, is not another empty TLA (that's 'Three Letter Acronym').
Here are just five reasons you may want to learn more about SBCs:
* In a world of unified communications, SBCs encrypt ALL IP communications, not just voice, but video and data too, to ensure your private communications over public networks, such as the Internet or wireless hotspots, remain private.
* They act as security guards; protecting networks from IP-based threats such as denial-of-service attacks, toll fraud and information theft.
* They act as translators (also known as 'signalling interoperability'), turning expensive TDM into more cost-efficient SIP, and helping to save you money, especially when linked to a SIP trunk.
* They act as traffic policemen, reducing network congestion, and facilitating the 'flow', which improves voice quality, so you don't need to be embarrassed by voice jitter on important conference calls.
* They act as school prefects, managing the rules you define as policies, which can make you the hero of your company, reducing long-distance fees, foreseeing and handling network overload, and improving overall quality of service.
There is more, but that's just five for starters. Want to learn more? Please join VOD Communications and Sonus at TechED 2013 KZN or e-mail us.
