Xpedia and IS - a winning partnership

Johannesburg, 28 Aug 2013

In 2004, Xpedia and Oracle formed a partnership to implement Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11 at Internet Solutions (IS), a division of Dimension Data. The project consisted of the implementation of Oracle with an integration to Siebel. Xpedia became the sole service provider during the implementation phase.

After the successful go-live on 1 October 2005, IS and Xpedia started a strategic relationship to ensure maximum return on the investment of IS in their new system, at the same time delivering a critical support function to the business.

From 2004 to date, IS has grown from 450 employees to a vast 1 500 employee base. With the support from Xpedia, over the last nine years, Oracle E-Business Suite provided the flexibility to accommodate Internet Solutions' immense growth, and as a result, all the accompanying structural changes.

From the onset, the support team consisted of only eight members, and to date has grown by merely two additional resources. The team today comprises a mix of IS and Xpedia resources.

During 2008 and 2009, Internet Solutions South Africa acquired shares in companies across Africa, including Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and Mozambique. As a result of the acquisition of these entities, in an effort to incorporate the operations seamlessly, it was necessary to start the roll-out of the ERP environment. The financial modules were first deployed in Kenya and Mozambique, with Nigeria and Ghana to follow in years to come.

In 2010, IS deployed Oracle Advance Collections and today the module is used in facilitating the entire dispute and collection process. And in 2011, an upgrade to Release 12 was completed successfully over a four-month period.

And now for 2013: In January and February, Supply Chain was deployed in Mozambique and Kenya. The full E-Business Suite was rolled out in May in Nigeria. Due to the fact that most preparation was done in South Africa, it only required one week in the country to train and handhold the E-Business users. A project of similar scale would normally take approximately six months to complete. By utilising this model, the team managed to implement these eight E-Business Suite modules integrated to Siebel in an average time of three months per country. As a result of this extremely successful and efficient roll-out approach, the team was requested to roll-out to Ghana in July, while the Nigeria roll-out was still stabilising.

Apart from implementing Oracle E-Business Suite solutions, Xpedia has been involved in developing and deploying its own unique line of applications such as Task Assistant and Month End Assistant, which have been successfully deployed at Internet Solutions to complement the Oracle day-to-day and month-end procedures.
