Xpedia delivers complete payroll solution at CBARS

Johannesburg, 01 Mar 2010

CBARS has been using the Xpedia payroll outsource service for two years and has seen significant benefits. Most notably, CBARS management has freed up significant time that can now be spent focusing on its core business rather than administration of payroll.

Xpedia has seen similar benefits being realised by most of its payroll outsource clients. In a recent Xpedia survey, customers with less than 500 employees who converted to this service reported an average 60% reduction in management time spent on payroll administration. This is typical in organisations that become large enough for payroll administration to be a significant burden (anything above a handful of employees), but aren't quite large enough to justify hiring the right expertise internally to handle payroll properly and is also reflected in the CBARS story.

CBARS (Competency Based Assessment & Recruitment Solutions) focuses on the development and implementation of human capital management software solutions for its clients. Started in 2001, CBARS today is a rising market leader in the growing sector of total talent management solutions, supporting the entire talent life cycle of its customers. CBARS boasts an impressive list of customers including government departments, large parastatals and private corporations that benefit from their state of the art suite of human capital management tools.

By early 2008, the continuous growth that CBARS was experiencing coupled with the increasing complexity of legal requirements, escalated the administrative burden of payroll. Until then the management had been handling the payroll themselves and carried the full weight of this administrative burden. CBARS were looking for a solution that would allow them to rely on experts in tax and payroll matters to take care of these complexities. However, appointing such expertise in-house would simply not be feasible or cost-effective.

CBARS outsourced its payroll to Xpedia from March 2008. Xpedia uses the Web-based nuQ payroll system to efficiently process payroll transactions, while allowing full flexibility in both scale and complexity. From month to month, CBARS supplies Xpedia with basic payroll input information and all administration and processing is handled by Xpedia. The payroll software is kept perfectly up to date with changes in tax or other legislative requirements and Xpedia ensures that regular back-ups are made and data is secure. CBARS management get a concise report pack, backed by comprehensive audit trails for their approval at the end of every payroll run. Once approved, payslips are e-mailed directly to individual employees. Xpedia also generates tax certificates and all legislative reports and files required on behalf of CBARS.

CBARS benefits from the Xpedia payroll outsource service primarily through the cost-effective utilisation of dedicated expertise in the field of payroll administration and income tax. CBARS director, Theo Heymans, says the quality of service, ease of working with Xpedia and openness in communication allows them to leave their payroll admin burden at Xpedia's door without any issues or worries. This peace of mind comes at a fraction of the cost of appointing such dedicated professionals for payroll internally. They've also been impressed with the adaptability and flexibility of the nuQ payroll system and Xpedia's use thereof, which allows any requirement to be met. In all, CBARS management can relax knowing that while their payroll administration costs remain well under control, the payroll is handled competently by dedicated professionals.
