Mandela Day, 18 July 2014, is a call to action for individuals and businesses alike to join Xpedia and Feed A Child in taking responsibility for adding hope and changing our community.

Feed A Child will invite 3 000 children from Centurion's underprivileged communities to attend the event. The aim is to get as many local restaurants or delis as possible involved to extend a hand by sponsoring meals for the children. Each child will also receive a sustainable mobile vegetable garden kit, a t-shirt and some other goodies; and there will be an array of entertainment for the children to make the event memorable for them.

What makes this event unique is not only the sheer scope of it, but also the aspect of providing a sustainable feeding solution to the attending children's families. The goal is to get the Centurion community involved in uplifting the local communities. This will be done by providing each child with a mobile vegetable garden kit. The kit consists of a holder, compost and vegetable seeds and as part of the day's programme, the children will be taught how to plant, nurture and grow their own vegetables.

Feed A Child aims to provide an organic market where the children will have the opportunity to sell their vegetables. Alternatively, their vegetables can be consumed at home by themselves and their families. The organic market will in turn invite the restaurants involved in the event to purchase their organic vegetables from there. Therefore, the community is uplifted through a cycle of producing, selling and buying vegetables.

We challenge the local businesses to get involved through either sponsorships or volunteering on the day of the event. For further information go to the Feed A Child website www.feedachild.co.za or find us on Facebook under Xpedia Feed A Child Event.

Further to this, we invite all Centurion businesses to get involved with Feed A Child. Xpedia, in conjunction with Feed A Child, sponsors a group of children to be fed on a daily basis and wants to communicate this principle through the event as well. Any business, no matter the scope, scale or industry, can sponsor a group of children to be fed on a daily basis throughout the year for as little as R2.50 per meal. This is an important message to convey, as the entire community benefits at the end of the day.
