Zim exits Telkom

Johannesburg, 11 Sep 2012

Lazarus Zim has stepped down from his position as chairperson of the board at SA's national fixed-line operator, Telkom.

The JSE-listed company said this morning that Zim informed the Telkom board of directors of his withdrawal as chairman and director, which will take effect from the end of Telkom's annual general meeting, in October.

“The board thanks [Zim] for his valuable contribution to Telkom and wishes him well in the future.”

Saluted as a “seasoned businessman” by industry players, Zim was appointed by the late minister of communications Roy Padayachie, in February last year, replacing Jeff Molobela on his retirement.

While he was originally appointed for a 12-month period, Telkom said in February this year that Zim would stay on in the position.

Prior to Zim's tenure with Telkom, he served as MD of MTN International and executive director of the MTN Group. He has also served as CEO of the MNet Channel, MD of MNet SuperSport, and CEO of MIH South Africa.
