Bank of England overhauls HR

The Bank of England has signed a five-year contract with supplier Logica to overhaul its HR systems, writes Computing.co.uk.

Logica will help the bank move its 1 750 employees and 7 000 pensioners to a managed Oracle HR pay-as-you-go system. The system offers performance management, recruitment, time and attendance, flexible benefits, HR analytics and a bureau payroll service.

Logica says it will bring greater automation and standardisation to the bank's HR services. There will be a phased implementation, with the service scheduled to go live in 2010.

MS plan can harm SMEs

Microsoft's decision to scrap its hosted payroll software just before Christmas is a "potential disaster" for small firms, says Document Management News.

The Institute of Payroll Professionals said Microsoft's plans to stop selling its Office Accounting service and turn off its hosted payroll software 10 days before Christmas was a potential disaster, particularly as many pay their staff early in December.

Businesses that have registered for Microsoft's Office Accounting service will still be able to use it, but the software will no longer be updated to show changes in legislation, such as the upcoming adjustment of sales VAT from 15% back to 17.5% on 1 January 2010. As a result, these companies will need to find new ways to pay their employees in a very short space of time.
