Business continuity company Stratus Technologies has introduced a 'zero downtime $50k guarantee', which offers customers $50 000 in cash or product credit if they experience any unplanned downtime on its latest fault tolerant server and the required service contract.

The guarantee comes with the company's latest enterprise-class x86 fault tolerant server with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 for a six-month period, following server deployment in a production environment, states Stratus. The offer is open to customers worldwide, and the programme ends 26 February, 2010.

“A vendor puts everything on the line when it commits to keeping its customers' most important business operations running without interruption,” offers Eugene Saburi, Microsoft GM, Windows server product marketing.

“The ftServer line is a solid platform for running critical Windows applications that consistently surpassed 99.999% uptime reliability since the first model hit the market in 2001,” he adds.

Stratus contends that the industry's confusion in the use of terms such as high availability, continuous availability and fault tolerance can mislead buyers looking to protect their critical business applications.

“When customers buy what they think is a fault tolerant solution, they should expect a system that, for all practical purposes, has no unscheduled downtime,” argues Dick Sharod, African regional director at Stratus Technologies.

“The Zero Downtime programme is a show of confidence that our products consistently perform at the highest levels of availability,” he concludes.
