Effective use of tablets will allow organisations to stay relevant and develop an edge above their competitors, says Dell.

Tablets can serve as instruments that drive change in the enterprise.

So says Llewellyn Chame, mobility sales specialist at Dell, who notes tablets can help businesses re-engineer how they are run and, in so doing, help organisations improve how they deal with customers. This is the real point of consideration when reviewing the role of tablets in the business space, he notes.

According to Chame, effective use of this technology will allow organisations to stay relevant and develop an edge above their competitors.

He points out that tablets should always be used to help people, and consequently organisations, improve on how things are done.

The technological landscape today presents daunting challenges, especially with the wide range of options available, notes Chame.

He says choosing a technology partner to help navigate the landscape will allow organisations to make the right choices. These choices, when implemented, can overcome the innovation gap that organisations face. Where before, technology was about control, today it's about collaboration so that people and the business can together and achieve goals, he says.

Chame believes the requirement for tablets will not be driven by the IT department of a company; it will be driven by the user community in sales, logistics and admin. "This community must be innovative enough to see how the technology can help drive change. Thus, technology will result in users having a greater say in how IT drives business holistically rather than IT simply issuing devices to users, as has been the case in the past."

He stresses that while the tablet discussion is all the rage, organisations must not forget about security.

Security of devices and security of data - both at rest and on the move - is critical in today's world. More than the monetary penalty associated with a loss of information due to a security breach, the loss of trust in the brand can close a business.

"With the force that is mobility being taken ever more seriously by organisations, this critical element must be part of the equation," he says.
