If an organisation is running a network via multiple locations, constant maintenance is needed, says Cornel Swart, COO at Netxactics.

In a world that is increasingly being dominated by distributed workforces, enterprises must deploy multisite wireless control solutions for effective network control and security.

This is according to Cornel Swart, COO at Netxactics, a South-African company specialising in sales, marketing and distribution of IT and related products.

Swart explains that multisite wireless control enables an IT professional to monitor and maintain theWiFi network centrally from the HQ.

"To install a new location or a new access point won't need any IT know-how; and also does not require the IT administrator on site. Basically, just plug in the unit, which has the ability to find its way back to the central controller. All the configuration can be done in the central on-premise or cloud controller so you have the ability to provision access points," he says.

Swart points out that if an organisation is running a network via multiple locations, constant maintenance is needed as well as constant policy changes.

"Companies want to make sure that policies are rolled out to organisational groups. People expect such multi-site WiFi networks just to work no matter which location they reside in. For us, we enjoy the way Ocedo allows organisations to configure and group everything centrally from the HQ," he notes.

He says with Ocedo, guests, employees and Internet-enabled "things" receive enterprise-grade mobility and WiFi across all locations, while smart roaming streamlines connectivity hand-over between access points and sites.

Multisite wireless was just the start of having a part of the network centrally managed, says Swart, adding that the trend is moving towards a complete software-defined networking solution for any company for a holistic, centralised, managed network approach.

More time and complexity to get the basics done, which basically means companies spend unnecessary resources to implement connectivity and control for a flexible mobile environment, are some of the biggest risks organisations face by not investing in multisite wireless control solutions, Swart warns.

"Companies need technology to provide the platform to do their business but complexity of the basics is ever-growing."
