OpenWeb has announced a new range of capped unshaped ADSL packages, with prices below R2 per GB and uncapped packages starting at R149 per month.

CEO Keoma Wright says the Internet has become a basic commodity, with broadband playing a crucial role in economic growth, development and job creation. He adds OpenWeb will launch a new feature that guarantees unshaped access between certain times.

The company will also introduce priority support for business clients and resellers, while clients will also receive five free e-mail addresses with a total storage of 1GB on all accounts.

Amid a growing demand for data among customers, OpenWeb recently focused on expanding its offerings, including its Business Uncapped Unshaped deal, as well as a hybrid ADSL package that includes capped-unshaped data during peak hours and uncapped-shaped off-peak data.

Meanwhile, industry observers noted South Africans' "fear" of downloading and the culture of megabyte counting is starting to subside as the debate shifts to speed amid ongoing advancements in capacity and pricing.
