MTN has unveiled the structure and pricing for its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) offering, which includes three packages - a 20Mbps, 50Mbps and 100Mbps option - for R794, R1 104 and R1 389 per month, respectively.
The 24-month contracts each include a monthly line rental and device fee, while installation is free. The device fee is R55 per month for each package, but customers have the option of a once-off payment of R1 150.
The FTTH installation includes a Fibre2Home device, which is WiFi-enabled. "MTN will install and terminate the fibre anywhere in your house, according to your preference," says the company.
In addition to the said packages (see table below), customers can also build their own package, with a choice of 10GB, 20GB, 50GB, 100GB and 500GB data bundles on their chosen Internet speed.
MTN says pricing is subject to change on a case-by-case basis, depending on the amount of infrastructure and civil engineering required.
The operator first revealed its FTTH plans in April, when it demonstrated the new high-speed service to residents of Monaghan Farm, an upmarket gated estate just north of Lanseria Airport.
At the time, MTN said it was rolling out "aggressive deployment" of FTTH to high-density urban areas, like upmarket gated communities, boomed-off suburbs and high-rise buildings.
The official commercial launch for the product was in June, while further residential sites are still in the pipeline.
MTN says the rollout is demand-driven, and is an extension of its established fibre connectivity backbone, which utilises Gigabit Passive Optical Network technology, to business parks and residential estates in all major cities.
